Plug-ins are functions that do something to your website. A plug-in can serve a back-end purpose and never be visible to you or the public. A widget allows you to easily add design elements to your website by dragging and dropping the element you want. Widgets are always plug-ins, but plug-ins don’t always have widgets. To better illustrate some widgets and plug-ins take a look at the list below. There are hundreds of widgets and plug-ins out there, this list will give you an idea of some of the common ones we use. If it’s out there and works, you could have it on your WordPress website created by us.

Here’s a “brief” list of some common widgets and plug-ins we use:

Ad Rotator Rotates ads every time the page is reloaded – allows for direct links to those ads. Can also be used as a sidebar gallery.

Any Font Allows you to use any TrueType or OpenType font to replace plain text anywhere you want in your theme design.

Archives Archives of your blog posts. Sorted by category, month, year and author.

Author Complete Post List Allows for the full list of author posts to be present on the author info page.

Availability Calendar Displays booking availability on a year by year basis. A full calendar year is displayed, with booked dates highlighted.

Block IE6 Internet Explorer 6 does not support current security issues and web standards, which can cause of compromise of your website’s integrity. With this plugin, any visitor who is using IE6 will get a display when they visit your website, letting them know they will need to switch to a modern browser to visit your site.

Breadcrumb Navigation Locational breadcrumb trails for your website. These breadcrumb trails are highly customizable to suit your needs. This will make navigation very easy for your site visitors.

Calendar Robust Google calendar updates on your site every time you make a change to your Google calendar. Allows for information and a map to each designated event in the calendar. Google Calendar can be added as both a widget in a sidebar, as well as a page of its own.

Categories Automatically creates a configurable list of categories in the sidebar.

ColourLovers A site where users can create different color schemes and patterns. Use this widget to put an RSS feed with the most recent color schemes in your sidebar.

Customizable Contact Form Up to 4 unique forms available for each website. Add any field that is necessary, including file uploads. Contact form info is sent to your email.

Customizable Newsletter Add a newsletter sign up feature with automatic notification and confirmation email.

Copyright Pro Prevents the copying of texts and images from your website.

Database Backup Allows you easily to backup your core database tables. You may also backup other tables in the same database. You can schedule daily, weekly or monthly backup as well, to ensure that you are always protected against crashes, hackers or any other problems.

Exclude Pages Prevent certain pages from being automatically added to navigation menus.

Extra User Details Allow additional information to be added to each user’s profile, any custom fields you want.

Facebook Live Stream A social widget that lets users visiting your website share activity and comments in real time.

Favicons Make your site eye-catching and easily recognizable by visitors that have several windows or tabs open, as well as in their bookmarks menu. You can choose to use your Gravatar image, a custom icon or an image from the icon set included.

Featured Content Gallery Create an automated, fully customizable rotating image gallery anywhere within your site. Choose your images and display categories, pages or posts with custom overlay text and a thumbnail carousel. Custom options include gallery size, color, style and more.

Feed Statistics Track statistics for your RSS/Atom feeds, including the number of subscribers, which feed readers they’re using, which posts they’re viewing and which links they’re clicking on.

Flickr Feed Gallery Display any type of publicly available Flickr photo feeds.

Greet Box This plugin lets you show a different greeting message to your new visitors depending on their referrer URL. For example, when a Digg user clicks through from Digg, they will see a message reminding them to Digg your post if they like it. You can also set a default greeting message for new visitors (not matching any referrer URLs) suggesting them to subscribe to your RSS feed. Having these targeted suggestions will help your blog increase exposure, loyal readership, and reader interaction.

Page Links To Change the links your blog posts are directed (internal or external links). This will send a blog post link to another site, if desired, rather than an individual post page within your site.

PayPal Donations Add a PayPal donation section to a sidebar or page on your site. You can choose which donation button you want to use or if you want to use a custom button. There is also options available for currency and the return page.

PollDaddy Allows you to create and manage PollDaddy.com polls and ratings from within your dashboard. You can create polls, choose from 20 different styles for your polls, and view all results for your polls as they come in. All PollDaddy polls are fully customizable, you can set a close date for your poll, create multiple choice polls, choose whether to display the results or keep them private. You can also create your own custom style for your poll.

Post Views Enables you to display how many times a post/page had been viewed.

Recent Comments Allows visitors to view all recent comments in one area.

Recent Posts Allows visitors to view all recent posts in one area. Can be sorted to show posts from certain categories only.

RSS Inbound Entries from ANY RSS or Atom feed are displayed in the sidebar.

RSS Outbound Allows you to broadcast your posts via RSS.

Search Allows for a visitor to search a word or phrase on your site.

Sidebar Login Has both a widget and a template tag to allow you to have a login form in the sidebar of your website. Allow users to login, and then redirect them back to the page they logged in from rather than the backend.

Simply Exclude Provides an interface to selectively exclude/include categories, tags, authors and pages from the frontpage, archive, search or feed.

Social Bookmarks An extremely useful and successful tool in getting your readers to actually submit your articles to numerous social bookmarking sites.

Tag Cloud Rotating “cloud” of tags and categories in the sidebar. Can be configured to show either tags, categories or both.

Testimonials Manager Manage all of your testimonials in one place and add a sidebar widget to show them off in rotation. All testimonials will be visible on their own page.

Text Allows you to add HTML or simple text to a widget location on your site.

Twitter Fans Allows you to display your Twitter followers in the sidebar as a widget just like Facebook’s fan widget in appearance. This plugin does not require your Twitter password, only your username. It also lets you change border, background, and color of the widget.

Twitter Updater Updates Twitter automatically each time you create/edit a post.

Video Widget 25 video formats allowed (Youtube, Dailymotion, Google Video, Flv, Vimeo, Flickr, Metacafe, LiveLeak, Revver, iFilm, MySpace, Blip.tv, CollegeHumor, VideoJug, GodTube, Veoh, Break, Movieweb, Jaycut, Myvideo, Clipfish, Viddler, Gametrailers, Snotr, Taratata, Espn, Mtv Music, Quicktime, Windows media player, SchoolTube). You can add as many videos as you want and they will rotate randomly each time the page is loaded.
